From Darkness Into Light

Did you know that light travels at over 186,000 miles per second? One of its definitions is something that makes things visible or affords illumination. And have you ever noticed what happens with darkness when you turn on the lamp, light the candle or the sun awakens? The darkness runs away and cannot stay. Its presence is only because of the absence of the light.

Those in the conservative movement right now are overwhelmed with what feels like the crumbling of our nation. The list of grievances being performed by our own government and its leaders are too many to count. It seems the news highlights one negative story after another and some of them are beat to a pulp. To some the burden of the darkness is an ever growing weight.

Unspoken fears culminate around common threads: is it too late to preserve our freedom, dignity and virtue as a nation? Have we gone way too far, to never get back to how the founders framed our nation? And if it's not too late, what can we do to make sure something like this never happens again?

This post is to encourage you and hopefully put things in perspective as I think we are seeing fruit of our/your labors. I propose your consideration of three things.

For point one, we must always keep perspective.

The World English Dictionary defines "perspective" as a way of regarding situations, facts, etc, and judging their relative importance. We must be consistent students of history. We must reflect on scenarios we have faced and consider: have they happened before? How have leaders dealt with mega crossroads? How did they determine an answer for the conflict? What did they learn from it?

Accounts of history provide us context to the situation and scenarios we face, both as a red flag of what could be coming or perhaps an indicator of encouragement: If they lived through it, we can keep going in our effort too!

And in our quest for perspective, we must be asking questions of the older generations. How silly of us to take an extensive and potentially dangerous trip, and not be prepared. If you decide to take a safari into the jungle and you've never even been outside your back yard before, don't you think it best to have an experienced tour guide instruct you? Someone aware of the dangerous pitfalls and beasts, or of the beautiful havens of safety? You could try tackling the wild and awesome jungle on your own  but don't be surprised if the lions eat you for lunch.

If the older generations experienced Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, the riots in LA, the adjustments of culture when God was ousted from the schools, the discovery of new lands, the persecution of different groups in our nation, the conflict of political parties, the descecration of our freedoms - and yet they survived, it seems best to me to ask them how they would have done things differently. Our trip through the jungle would be much more enjoyable and successful if we would only have asked the experienced tourist how to do things so our trip is as safe, secure and prosperous as possible.

I want to know from our Grandparents and parents era things like: What would you have done differently? What were the indicators of this conflict your nation experienced that you wish leaders had heeded? What is missing from our set up right now as a people that is causing us to lose our way? What is your advise to us? What was life like when you lived with the looming presence of this or that atrocity? And what do you wish someone had told you, when you were in our shoes?

But of crucial importance right now is the question What is your wisdom for us in this hour of our culture so to save it as a beacon of truth and light for future generations?

Onto the point two. I think it imperative for us to recognize what has been in the darkness but has now been exposed. To consider this point benefits us for our own gratefulness, our acknowledgement of how God is answering our prayers, and our own alertness to how things are shifting. How childish of us if we keep praying, asking God for answers, to improve things, to appoint certain leaders, to expose different truths - without realizing he's already given us x, y, and z!! It's like being the needy and desperate child who keeps begging for a snack, never realizing it's right in front of them. They keep stomping and crying and wringing their hands, and begging - and their mom says "Honey, I have now put 5 snacks in front of you. What else can I do before you notice I am listening to you!!!"

Here, let's try it realtime. Consider these stories and tell me that God has NOT been answering prayers:
  • Rod Blagojevich: he's gone to jail! Remember him? Oh the drama that caused a few years ago when it became exposed that he had been trying to sell President Obama's US Senate seat. He is one of many leaders whose "dirty laundry", including affairs, sexual addictions, distasteful business deals and more, are being exposed. And this is a very good thing. Some of our country's guilty leaders are being vetted and exposed for their lack of integrity.
  • Terrorist attacks thwarted! The Heritage Foundation released a piece in September of 2011, in honor of the 10 year anniversary of our horrid 9/11 attack, discussing forty foiled attacks since that fateful day. But how many of these did you hear about in the media? How many knew what our heroes behind the scenes were accomplishing? How many of us knew and experienced God's Divine Protection because of the exposure of these plots?
  • Fast and Furious: Facts being exposed. Everything has not been brought to justice yet but there is enough offensive smell to the situation that leaders are pushing to find the answers! This is good! There could be no notice at all! Our Attorney General, Eric Holder, thinks his department can gracefully dance through this "trial" but just because he can talk his way out of one scrutiny does not mean the conversation is over.
  • President Obama says No to Christians but Yes to Muslims? Perhaps we never realized all the times, scenarios and situations that have indicated President Obama's religious allegiances. But thanks to this report by David Barton, we now see in full (or 'more' in full) where the President stands. (Note: It is critical that these facts are put in front of every person of faith in America, for their serious scrutiny before the November 2012 elections.)
  • Ever heard of Peter Schweizer? He wrote Throw Them All Out, a book exposing insider trading among our government leaders in Washington DC. It was an "ouch" book for those who have been flying below the radar screen on how they play the financial game in DC, on our dime and time, to increase their own personal account. The result of this book? New legislation was put into play to start the process towards extinguishing this corruption. Read the report from Mr. Schweizer himself on the legislative efforts, the media outlets that have helped him, and the persecution he has experienced. Truth is exposing the darkness.
I know there are more stories to record of leaders that are being exposed, disasters that are being thwarted, solutions that are being discovered and miracles that are manifesting in magnificent ways. I'm telling you, friends what is in the darkness is coming into the light!!

We must take regular moments to say thank you to the news sources out there that are doing their job in the right way!! There are most definitely sources worthy of consideration. Never take one news source at it's full word but compare it to others to balance the perspective. Sites like CNS News or Family Research Council, Gary Bauer with American Values, Citizen Link, Christian Broadcast Network; or World Net Daily; The Blaze or GBTV; or the Drudge report are sources worth following.

My third and final point is this: we must continue to take action and proactively turn on the light! When the light (or truth) comes on the scene, the darkness has no choice but to be impacted by it. But the light does not always appear on its own. Oftentimes it needs "warriors" who will take initiative and light the candle, shine a light on what's hiding in the corner, ask the right questions to discover what is not being seen and be conduits that the light - or truth - can be conveyed through.

This hour in America is very discouraging at times. But we have only the choice of sitting down and giving up or continuing to do what we can to turn on the light, and expose the darkness. If light travels forward - into the darkness - at 186,000 miles per second that means the darkness disappears that quickly. And when the light comes onto the scene, everything changes.

I have recently discovered this poem that provides a whimsical yet roaring charge, and will serve as the end to this post. Do not grow weary my friend. Faith combined with action will accomplish many things.

Where There's a Will There's A Way

We have faith in old proverbs full surely,
For Wisdom has traced what they tell,
And Truth may be drawn up as purely
From them, as it may from "a well."
Let us question the thinkers and doers,
And hear what they honestly say;
And you'll find they believe, like bold wooers,
In "Where there's a will there's a way."

The hills have been high for man's mounting,
The woods have been dense for his axe,
The stars have been thick for his counting,
The sands have been wide for his tracks.
The sea has been deep for his diving,
The poles have been broad for his sway,
But bravely he's proved in his striving,
That "Where there's a will there's a way."

Have ye vices that ask a destroyer?
Or passions that need your control?
Let Reason become your employer,
And your body be ruled by your soul.
Fight on, though ye bleed in the trial,
Resist with all strength that ye may;
Ye may conquer Sin's host by denial;
For "Where there's a will there's a way."

Have ye Poverty's pinching to cope with?
Does Suffering weigh down your might?
Only call up a spirit to hope with,
And dawn may come out of the night.
Oh! much may be done by defying
The ghosts of Despair and Dismay;
And much may be gained by relying
On "Where there's a will there's' a way."

Should ye see afar off that worth winning,
Set out on the journey with trust;
And ne'er heed if your path at beginning
Should be among brambles and dust.
Though it is but by footsteps ye do it.
And hardships may hinder and stay,
Walk with faith, and be sure you'll get through it;
For "Where there's a will there's a way."

A Must Read: His Blatant Attack on Christianity

I think I may start posting certain pieces that are absolutely must reads. Of course there are always items that are interesting but there are key messages that are, from my opinion, truths that need to be acknowledged and shared among our networks.

I think this piece by David Barton with Wallbuilders is one of them. Please read and share. May this well documented piece cause angst to our spirits and minds as we acknowledge the truth of President Obama's blatant stands. But most importantly may it open the door for us to know God's heart for this President who is very much mis-led. May pieces like this be catalysts for convictions of our own heart: we must be faithful followers of God, stand for his truth, and pray for our leaders.

God's heart for people is more important than my bias or opinion. I was once in darkness, but now I'm in the light. But by the grace of God... go I.

Please wake up, Mr. President! Standing against God is not a good thing for our nation, or for you.

Respectfully submitted,
Amy

Amy's Items to Know (3.22.12)

A few prayer and conversation worthy items ...

KILL ONE LIFE TO SAVE ANOTHER? And we laud this as development in the world of science?? I would rather use the word barbaric. Tell me what you think though.

Post-Abortion Baby Parts Now a Booming Business

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THIS END OF LIFE CONFERENCE CALL - FLINT, MI: In case you're interested ... you might like to listen in on this teleconference call on April 24. This is a good time to make this point: we must know what the other side is doing, saying, teaching, pleading, planning and - well, you get my drift. Make sure you are tracking what is happening in your own local communities. Are there agendas afoot on the city council, in the teacher unions, on the road commission to do anything that goes against our core-principles as Americans, and as people committed to following God?

If you feel so led, this really could be a good call to listen in on. The beginning of life and the end of life, and all the days in between matter oh so much. Now we just need to ensure those that are making these decisions agree with us - and God! - on the dignity of life at all stages!

HIGHLIGHTING A HERO: Enter New York Congressman and Homeland Security Committee Chair Peter King. He has been raising awareness to Americans for months that there is danger afoot when it comes to Hezbollah and radical Islam. Word to the wise: PAY ATTENTION. Or don't blame him later when you find out he was right. This is a man with a backbone. And oh how America and America's families need more of them.

SUGGESTED RESOURCE FOR TODAY IS STAKELBECK ON TERROR! Please Meet Erick Stakelbeck! He offers a dynamic news program with CBN on radical Islam. Why should it be on your top 10 credible sources to pay attention to? Because the subject matter threatens  our freedom and safety as a people, a nation and the family of Almighty God. Pay attention - and pass it on.

Amy's News to Know (3.21.12)

Hope you find this information helpful. Always ask the question, as you listen to the mainstream media, what am I not being told?

Defining Bravery in North Korea: Children are escaping North Korea, hiding, losing limbs. They want something better. Learn about ministries helping those in trouble. (And how very blessed we are to be free men and women. Ahhh, but the question is, for how much longer... )

Teachers Can't Have Sex with their students 18 and younger? What was this MI State Senator thinking with this new proposed law? (Sarcasm and gasp!) THANK YOU, State Senator Roger Kahn (from Saginaw area) for making immorality painful.

Herman Miller business feeling angst?Their business has taken a hit.  Hmmm... any correlation to what I shared yesterday that they are a big supporter of the gay and lesbian lifestyle? Just saying it's something to consider. Our choices and where we draw our line DO have consequences. And, based on our choices, not always in our favor.

Michigan's American Indians supporting same-sex marriage? According to this article, evidently one of Michigan's American Indian tribes is taking the plunge and stamping its blessing to this lifestyle.
"We have our own constitution, our own court system, and our own government here, police force, etc, DNR, so it's our right to express equality," former Odawa Chairman Ken Harrington told UpNorthLive. "In my mind, we're all equal in our creator's eye."

The Petoskey News-Review reports that, even though same-sex marriage is not legal in Michigan, "the tribe could allow such partnerships because of its status as a sovereign nation
."

Keep an eye on this - and pray for the Indian leaders!!

Michigan lawmaker suggests extra scrutiny on Iranian businesses in state: THANK YOU, Rep Knollenberg. You are my hero of the day!!! He is proposing legislation that will draw extra scrutiny to Iranian related businesses that want to put money into our state. He "gets" the danger with aligning with this country.

Suggested Resource: This is an email list you need to join. You will appreciate this Tea Party Patriots email. There is helpful information, events to consider etc. Here is one of their latest.

Word of the Day:

lin·ger  [ling-ger] Show IPA

4.to be tardy in action; delay; dawdle.

Babies in the Dumpsters - Not Forgotten

I sat in a subcommittee hearing last week, in the center of the state capitol building - the center of our state's government and power, and prayed, rejoiced and grieved all in the same window of time.

A dear friend of mine put together this report on abortion clinic abuses in Michigan. The report was released by Right to Life of Michigan (amazing people!!) at the beginning of this month. And last week (Thursday) was a casual sub-committee hearing just to disucss the findings, and try to get a grasp on how to move forward to rectify the disaster that has been created, just on the simple disregard for the law (not even considering the life aspect!!).

For example, the beginning of the report describes some of the data this way:

"Part I of this report provides an overview of decades of abuses at abortion clinics, demonstrating a pattern and practice of gross violations throughout the industry:
  • Illegal biohazard waste disposal and breaches of medical record privacy,
  • Negligent operative and post-operative practices that result in patient injury and death,
  • Refusals to release medical records for patient use and patient follow-up care,
  • Failure to report to the state medical complications, including patient deaths,
  • Illegal drug prescription, storage, and administration practices,
  • Failure to ensure sterile, sanitary surgical equipment and a sterile operative environment,
  • Violations of the law regarding informed consent for abortions, and
  • Performance abortions past the point of viability without documentation of a maternal health reason..."
Ed Rivet, Legislative Director for Right to Life, explained the report to the small sub-committee members and guests. And then someone representing the department in question, LARA, provided intel and perspective from their angle. The committee was chaired by State Senator Mark Jansen, flanked by State Senator John Proos (R) and State Senator Bert Johnson (D). For those who think "politics" is all attacks and arguments and no civility or respect you should have been to this meeting. I was delighted with the conversation, the tone of respect and honor for those on opposing sides and the approach on the subject.

Of course the ACLU, Planned Parenthood and NOW (National Organization for Women) all had a representative present. But there were also groups like Michigan Catholic Conference and Citizens for Traditional Values listening, and observing.

There are many different aspects one could address with this information but there are two specific points I want to make:

For one, truth is truth is truth. In example, a kitchen is a kitchen, no matter how you get there. The kitchen might have several door ways to get into the room, but regardless of what angle you take, you're still in the kitchen. You could let yourself down through a hole in the ceiling, you could climb through a hole in the floor, you could open the window and crawl in, you could walk backwards into the room or you could ride in on your pappa's shoulders. No matter how you get there, the room does not change.  In the same way, the truth is the truth is the truth - regardless of what angle you consider it from. But for too long conservatives have considered things from very few angles, and very few angles only.

The discussion that was had during that afternoon committee did not focus on the brutality and injustice of abortion (which every pro-life supporter believes and, every confused pro-choicer expects and is prepared to argue) but it was on a different angle.

These "practices" that are killing children are also causing many other offensive crimes, as noted at the beginning of this post. If we can make a certain crime extra excruciating by approaching it from an unusual or unexpected angle why not try? If we can make abortions so legally binding for abortion doctors - why not pursue it? If we can make breaking laws on disposal of hazardous materials so inconvenient, why not put an end to it? If someone who is pro-choice gets side-lined not because they have changed their mind on the dignity of a life but because their hands have been tied based on another issue, the pro-life effort wins, right?!

See what I mean? This material is brilliant! And the presentation of and content at this meeting and conversations within were fantastic!

My second point is referenced in the emotion initially mentioned. At last week's meeting, I sat there and listened and realized: my peers who have been eliminated for the past 30 plus years are finally getting a voice.

Strangers from my generation who might have been my friends, co-workers and neighbors who all left too early, many of whom were tossed in a dumpster or carelessly disregarded, are finally being heard. Finally, justice is being done. Those who have broken the law will pay. The perpetrators' conscience must be addressed with The Holy Father (remind me to share with you how I finally came to understand God's love because of the redemption of our Father on this issue alone) - but  there can be physical consequences in the law that discourage the perpetrators from ever attempting this disgusting "line of work" again.

Truth is coming from the darkness into the light. Doctors who abused their privelage to practice medicine, who have operated illegally, who caused damage to the mother (in more ways than one); the centers that have been careless of their treatment not only of the mother and baby but their personal information and privacy in healthcare; those who have more zealously sought the green cash in the mother's hands for the "service"; and those who have allowed their God-given lives to be used for the desecration of others - are being exposed.

If King Arthur - one of the world's great warriors of all times - had only moved forward in one way and one way only, he might have marched straight off the continent and his people completely slaughtered in the process. To be a great warrior, you must approach the subject from different angles, tactics and strategies if you want to win the war. And in the same way, if we are going to be successful leaders for truth and life, we must get creative, try new strategies and ask different questions. Nothing changes the substance of the issue. But if can make progress by entering "the kitchen" from a different perspective, I think we owe it to all the babies who have left early and their families who have been traumatized, to try.

God bless my friends who are warriors in this fight. I am honored to know you. My generation thanks you. They are no longer forgotten. The truth has been set free.

Amy's News Items to Know from Recent News (3.20.12)

A few items you might like to know about... God bless you for all you're doing to keep our country free!

Politics: Congrats to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney! He won the Illinois Presidential Primary this evening. Former Senator Rick Santorum came in number two. Both of them will take home some delegates!

How About This Ethical Issue: Twins "conceived" after their biological father's death and now their mom wants to claim benefits. THIS is what we get for attempting to be God. Things get complicated.

A Pastor as - President in Europe?!?! Did you know that Germany has just elected a pastor, as their President? Well, now you do!  (Although the separated from his wife and "new partner" thing is a little intriguing).

Furniture Taking a Radical Stand? Hah! Amy that makes no sense, you say. Well, have you heard of the famous and successful business Herman Miller? They are in west Michigan. Well they are proud to say they are big supporters of the gay, lesbian, etc lifestyle. Pretty radical stand for the conservative community of western Michigan. I wonder if that is what Grandpa Miller would have wanted... back in 1923. Might want to look twice before you buy new office furniture.

Mark Your Calendar:

  • Thursday, June 28: This marks the LAST DAY that the Michigan Legislature will work before summer vacation! If you have items you're concerned about, make sure you follow the policy and contact your elected leaders.

A Must Read: Family Research Council's Social Conservative Review March 15, 2012

Dear Friends,
Vanderbilt University scholar Dr. Carol Swain, in her recent book Be the Peoplereminds us that, “People across the globe are still willing to risk their lives to live on American soil. The vast numbers of foreign citizens wishing to enter the United States, whether legally or illegally, tells us we are an exceptional nation.”
As usual, Dr. Swain is right: There is no country like ours, for which we should be deeply grateful – and ever vigilant. Family Research Council exists to strengthen families, protect the unborn and their mothers, sustain religious liberty, and uphold the moral convictions that have infused our nation with hope and prosperity.
One of our top priorities is restoring fatherhood to its central role in our society. Last week, FRC was privileged to host Pastor Freddie Scott, author of The Dad I Wish I Had, as he discussed the crisis in American fatherhood, and what we can do about it. Watch Pastor Scott’s gripping presentation here.
Fathers, mothers, children – all Americans – benefit when integrity is clean, respect is mutual, and virtue is exalted and practiced. “Our forebears balanced a commitment to virtue and justice with a deep awareness of the moral conflict that lies at the heart of humanity,” writes Dr. Swain. “In doing so, they forged a nation unlike any other – with a deep sense of reverence for the human spirit, yet deferential to the God who weighs the affairs of men.”
Will we, in our time, return to that vision? Let’s keep advancing it and not lose heart. America – and the culture we bequeath to our children – is well worth the effort.
Sincerely,
Rob Schwarzwalder

Amy's Items to Know from Recent News (3/15)

A few items for your consideration as this day comes to a close.

No Cell Phones for Teens? The Michigan Legislature is discussing right  now whether a teenager should be able to have a cell phone while driving. I agree with the Michigan Senate who voted today, in majority, that NO, teens should not be able to use a cell phone while driving. The legislation now goes to the State House.

This legislation is fine with me!! The older I get the more I realize how young people are when we turn them into adults. Hah! I'm not a parent and I think kids shouldn't even be able to drive until 18 or even 20. (My siblings can't hate me on this one seeing that they are already driving age!!)

State Board of Education Chair: The Superintendent of the Michigan State Board of Education will still get a paycheck for a little bit longer. Mike Flanigan was approved to continue to hold his position. I don't know him personally but the organization I work with has three friends on the board and if he is okay with them, he's okay with me!

  • Get to know more about the State Board of Education/department here. You can attend their meetings, learn about their members, and prayerfully consider their issues! Share it with those concerned about education in your midst.
  • Encouragement: I know we feel like big government fails us. Big government educational programs fail us. Every system fails us. But try to look at this information with a fresh perspective. There really are good people in politics and I have confidence that our concerns matter to at least three of the board members. Give them a chance - and keep praying for them as they make wise decisions.

President's Face on Flag: This little "scenario" that happened in Florida is not funny. I think it's reflective of many things, all of which are not good. Perhaps I'll address it in one of my future pieces I'm working on. My frustration with the President continues to grow. And as I watch him lie to my generation, my frustration turns into fury. I know, I know, it wasn't President Obama that put his face on this flag. Fair point. But this action is reflective of an attitude in our nation right now, fostered by President Obama himself: our nation is not worthy of honoring.

Exciting News of the Day: A good friend of mine, mentioned yesterday, put together this fantastic and credible study on abortion clinics in Michigan. It was addressed in a sub-committee meeting today at the State Capitol. Wow!! God is definitely answering prayers! I'll post an update next.

FAVORITE RESOURCE:
Family Research Council Policy Report: You know how there are good desserts and then there are really mouth watering, spectacular delicacies? Perhaps it's the wrong metaphor for a policy resource but I think you will find this regular tool from them, released perhaps every month (continue to watch their website), has all sorts of links to all sorts of important issues. God bless the people who put their efforts to bring us these truths on today's happenings! They go above the norm!

Amy's Items to Know from Today's News

The goal of this piece is to provide you with news, from a couple days span, items you might not hear on the mainstream news but are important. Some might be encouraging, a call to action or a teaser to lead you to something I'd encourage you to study more. I encourage discussion on these items, and also sharing them on your page. The commentary listed below does not represent any organization but simply my own. Thanks for reading! ajh

ITEMS TO KNOW (3/13-3/14/12)
90 Young Adults Stoned to Death: Don't take the phrase "stoned to death" lightly. Ever watched the Stoning of Soraya M? I went with a military friend of mine and it definitely left a stamp. It's gruesome, I had to walk away from the screen for a bit, but for MANY PEOPLE it's reality. Imagine hating your sibling so much that you dug a hole, buried them up to their waist and then joined some friends as you started throwing stones. At them. The purpose? To kill. So when we hear in the news this week (oh wait. Did you not hear about it?? You mean the regular news was NOT reporting?? Huh, who would have thought!!) - that 90 YOUNG MEN were STONED TO DEATH because... wait for it... a HAIR STYLE.

Why does this concern us in America? Two reasons a) This is brutality reality that is happening in the world destroying human dignity and b) it's because of sharia law and there are people in America that want to bring that rule of law here. Think I'm joking? I'm not.

State Department: Is the Vatican laundering Money? The President's State Department doesn't like the Vatican. Check out this report that was put together. Pray for our Catholic friends and all others practicing religion - not more than ever. I'd like to take THIS moment to honor my Catholic friends (three of my dearest and best friends!): If it wasn't for you and your faith, and your church carrying out God's guidelines and values into society, America might have been gone a long time ago. Thank you. I stand with them... the President is going way too far. Again.

Muskegon Schools Discussing Sex Edu Curriculum: Oh boy. Here we go again. Another school board talking about sex. Parents and grandparents in the community - make sure you're a part of the conversation!

Kwame has a movie: Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has a movie now. I wonder how many people will watch? And will they watch to learn, or watch to mock? That is the question. (Perhaps though, it's the story of his redemption. Oh gosh, now I'm convincing myself to watch it!! ... Nahhhh. Enough other things to do with my time)

Abortion Clinics in MI NOT Obeying Laws: This report will be discussed in a Senate Appropriation Committee tomorrow. I plan on attending to watch and pray. One of my dear friends is behind making this report happen. Praise God for bringing darkness into the light!! Perhaps we can talk with Abortions clinics on how they are breaking the laws of God: a) don't murder and b) DO value life!!

Word of the Day:
Compliance - Real life example - will we comply with those who want to redefine our values as Americans and our standards as followers of God?

com·pli·ance/kəmˈplīəns/

Noun:
  1. The action or fact of complying with a wish or command.
  2. The state or fact of according with or meeting rules or standards.
Synonyms:
agreement - consent - accord - accordance - conformity

Encouragement:
Check out The Runaway Slave! A fantastic movie (I have yet to watch it, but heard discussion and watched a clip) that is exposing the truth on how the government, and others, is hurting the black culture. What wonderful people my black brothers and sisters are - may ALL of us in America be set free by the truth.

Am I That Frog?

Do you know what's scary? How aware I am to the demoralization of our country yet how dumbed down I feel about it. It's like being in a walk in freezer for a significant amount of time. Your head knows it's cold, and your body definitely feels the cold. You felt the shock initially when you entered the freezer and felt the bitter temperature of this cooler, but you're starting to get used to it, partly because you're losing all sense of feeling. Over just a short amount of time, your current reality becomes your normality! The frightening thing is not realizing how dangerously close you are to freezing to death - if you don't "come to" and get out of the freezer soon.

How many times have we heard the story of The Frog in the boiling water. If you put a frog in hot water, he'll jump out. But if you put the frog in cold water and slowly turn up the heat, he won't notice. And he'll eventually be cooked. This story is often used as an example of us as individuals in a culture where moral guidelines and virtuous boundaries are slowly losing their importance to us because we have become so normalized to the "wrong" that is happening around us.

Both of these visuals are meant to highlight what I identify my own self wrestling with and what I observe my country dealing with en mass - and lethal - proportions.

The stories don't stop. Families are falling a part. Kids, including the most recent in Detroit and Ohio, are shooting and killing one another, even their own parent. Evidently it's the "best" way they know how to deal with conflict. Other people are suffering from eating disorders because they have had a poor example of beauty presented to them. The use of drugs is taking lives. Alcohol abuse caused a young man to drive into a tree and die way too soon. Girls are getting pregnant out of wedlock in massive numbers. They just want to be loved and accepted and to have someone to love. Children experiencing the painful breakup of parents' marriages, including perhaps the departure of the live-in boyfriend-turned dad. Parents in prison and perhaps dealing with an unjust Justice system. College students not recognizing their purpose in life are twiddling away their brilliant minds, and time on too much of the meaningless things. The addictions that are started as innocent experiments torment individuals' lives. Like I said, the stories of our hurting communities, country and world don't stop.

There is no one person I'm thinking of as I write this piece. And there is no condemnation to those reading this who identify with the struggles mentioned. However, there is compassion for what people are dealing with. And angst for what our demoralization in this country has caused us individually and collectively. The sad thing is, do we - do I - fully realize how far we've gone? How hot the water is? And how close we are to "freezing" to death?

I work in the political arena, am delighted with listening to talk shows and getting their assessments of what is happening in the government culture, world affairs, getting to know candidates and hearing what they want to do if elected to office. But I am beyond exhausted of hearing the majority's solution to our quest for success again as a country: the way we "get back on track - is the economy, jobs, economy, jobs, jobs, economy and more jobs. There is this unspoken assumption that if we just fix the economy we will make our world right again.

When are we - brilliant, smart, intelligent Americans - going to wake up? Economy and social values go hand in hand.

Shocker of the century, fellow Americans but there is still absolute truth. There always has been, there always will be. Absolute truth means it does not change, no matter what the circumstances, scenario, individual or timing.

God loves people. Since the very beginning, He has given us tips, rules, guidelines that are for our best. His ideal is not to poo-poo our fun!! But it's to define boundaries and checks and balances that, if followed, will make us successful, thriving and happy residents of this world! But when we ignore them time after time after time - as individuals, cultures, nations - we lose sight of what's right and wrong in His eyes. We lose the calibration. And all "hell breaks lose". We become floundering kids trying to make our way on our own. Because of this, the economy suffers, the culture suffers, our health and well being as individuals suffer, our relationships suffer, the families, education systems, government affairs all suffer. How do we not see this, heed it and act upon it?

If you have individuals living virtuous lives within God's guidelines, you have healthier families, who contribute to healthier work forces. You have healthier children in schools if they are raised with consequences, balance and family structure.  Healthy individuals give us healthy economies. Healthy economies might improve the outward needs for a time. But not for long sustainability. It will quickly fade unless we address the right things first.

Our problem as a culture is that we've been the frog in the water. Things have been slipping for eons. Wrong things have turned into the right and new expected norms. The good and true is now scoffed at and shunned. And we - specifically as Americans (for this conversation) find ourselves floundering, so far off track we are not sure how to get back.  We are already experiencing the soul-less culture of self-gratification and human-problem solving. And I just wonder how close we are to losing our lives.

These things are connected. Oh, they are so connected. When the absolute standards of morality and virtue are removed from our society, when a mis-understood definition of God continues to duplicate among generations, peers and societal cultures, and when we have no calibration with our own conscience or good and evil, our society falters and everything else suffers.

And that's what is happening now. I don't know about you, but I want to grieve. I know where the hope lies - it's in the ever hopeful and faithful Father who is in the process of redeeming and restoring and showing us how to turn the boiling water down. It's when it doesn't bother me at all that scares me.

I wasn't born yesterday. I know the economy is important. But we've become fixated on one thing for so long. We cannot fix the house of a nation until we address what the real problem is. We cannot save the frog until we turn down the boiling water. And we cannot rescue the near frostbitten friend until they are removed from the freezer and "re-calibrated" to what the God-designed norm was meant to be. For this friend, it's a healthy body temperature. For us, it's returning to what God defines as good and right and true and abandoning those pieces of our life that are wrong, dirty and corrupt. Until we address this, the health of our society and nation is not going to return.

There is hope my friend to saving America, improving our communities and changing the world. But the question remains that demands an answer: will we recognize these dangers and do something about it? Or.. will we simply turn the boiling water even hotter.
